This is my work space or known as a tiny The Equinox Fashion's HQ. That's right I have renovated the living room in my apartment to be my personal office where I can work properly. I am working as a street fashion blogger for almost 4 years, however, I was contacted by the representative from City Calling regarding the experience in a job interview that I am very keen on sharing my personal experience with you.
Not only working on The Equinox Fashion, I also constantly send my resume to the companies out there so that I can have more opportunities to work in the related field. I do enjoy being a blogger and Master Degree student, but still I need more experiences in this industry. I have had a chance to work as a content writer, fashion assistant, English teacher and even waitress at the restaurant. I feel blessed with everything I have done, even though, I didn't enjoy some bits of them. Actually, I (cheeky) decided to work at Thai restaurant because I wanted to know how the food industry was like, as well, as how to run the food business since I have been thinking about saving more money to open Thai restaurant. You know being a fashion blogger is not gonna last forever..
I have been invited to many job interviews, and here are the '4 tips' (based on my experience) I would love to share with you guys.
1. Be 'in time'
It always happened to me back then when I arrived at the interview places on time and I didn't feel good. Sometimes, I stuck in the traffic, while sometimes Google couldn't help me locate the direction. You know when you are in a rush and Google seems to act like a **** how frustrating is that?! Therefore, I would love to suggest you guys to go there at least 15-30 minutes before the actual time so that you can get ready.
2. Professional Outfit
Even though I am a street fashion blogger, it doesn't mean that I am gonna wear ripped jeans or tank top with leather jacket to the interview. You can show who you are by what you wear, but elevate the look to be more professional and suitable with the career. Don't get me wrong, I don't wear a suit to the interview anyway lol However, I always bring a 'blazer' with me. You know you can wear whatever underneath as long as you have that must-have blazer to cover.
3. Be Yourself
Some of you may have the experience in dealing with a bitchy HR person...well at least I have LOL You can choose to answer whatever you want, you can even please the HR by answering whatever they wanna hear. It is good to be loved by the interviewer so you will get a job. However, I am one of the people who can't pretend to please others and answer like a pro because I have never practices in interviewing believe it or not? I just get ready 10 minutes in front of the interviewing room (by listening to rock music), then being straight up right away. I always think like what if I please them, get accepted but eventually not enjoying myself in such environment?...What I'm gonna do then?
4. Research
Researching the information about the company you are going to apply for always be a super idea! Just so you know, the interviewer will always ask "What do you know about our company?" It would be a shame if you can't answer the question though. Also, please make sure to read the description about the position too!
p.s. I don't know about you but I always play rock or electronica music before having the interview because it encourages me to be more than ready!
